Tawa Pulao

Tawa Pulao is a popular Mumbai street style dish. It is a combination of rice and vegetables cooked with pav bhaji masala on a tawa (a flat pan generally used to make chapati or roasting). We absolutely love this combination and hope to make you fall in love with it as well. 

Ingredients 

For the chilli paste:

6-7 Whole Kashmiri Red Chilli (soaked)

4-5 Garlic cloves

1 tsp Cumin seeds

1 tbsp Paav bhaji masala

For tava pulao:

2 tbsp Butter

1 tbsp Oil

1 tsp Cumin seeds

1 Onion (medium, sliced)

1 tbsp Ginger- garlic paste

1/4th cup chilli paste (ingredients mentioned in the above section)

½ cup Green Capsicum (sliced)

½ cup Potato (cubed and boiled)

¼ cup Carrot (cubed and blanched)

¼ cup French Beans (cubed and blanched)

¼ cup Green Peas (boiled)

1 Tomato (medium, roughly chopped)

Salt to taste

2 cups Rice (cooked)

½ tbsp Lemon juice

2 tbsp Butter

½ tbsp Pav Bhaji masala

For garnishing:

1 Onion (sliced)

Coriander leaves

Lemon wedges

Method:

For the chilli paste:

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend to get a smooth paste.
  2. Set it aside.

For tawa pulao:

  1. In a pan, heat oil and butter. Add cumin seeds to this and let it splutter.
  2. Add onion and saute till translucent. Now add ginger garlic paste and saute  till fragrant.
  3. Add the prepared chilli paste to this and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add the potato and the green peas and cook it for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Now add capsicum, carrots and French beans. Cook this for 5-6 minutes
  6. Add the salt and mix well. To this add the tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes
  7. Now add the cooked rice and toss well. To this add pav bhaji masala, lemon juice and butter. Cook this for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Garnish with onions, coriander and lemon wedges.

Tips:

– You could always make some extra chilly paste and serve it with the pulao as a dip on the side.
